MEDIA

Being media literate is a necessary life skill in the 21st century. Media literacy can be defined as ‘the ability to access, understand and create communications in a variety of contexts’ (OFCOM). Studying Media aims to promote media literacy and encourages students to see their media consumption through a critical eye.
Students of Media studies develop enquiry, critical thinking and decision-making skills through the study of media texts, audiences and institutions, develop their appreciation and critical understanding of the media and its role in their daily lives, develop their practical skills through opportunities for personal engagement and creativity and understand how to use media key concepts to analyse media texts and their contexts.
Studying Media can lead to a diverse range of vocations in the various media sectors such as advertising, marketing, film, television or publishing or provide entry to a number of Higher Education course in Arts and Humanities subjects and will also help students of across our specialisms to communicate their work more effectively.
