What a fantastic week of learning beyond the classroom! Our students continue to make the most of brilliant educational visits and trips.
Big Rig Challenge - Northampton College

Some of our Y10 students took part in the Low Carbon Challenge on the Big Rig at Northampton College earleir this week - the UTC being one of only six schools invited to attend across the week.
Working in teams, students tackled a real‑world practical challenge with a strong focus on health and safety. They were assessed on key criteria including planning and project understanding, economical use of materials, the design of a rainwater collection system, and an effective waste management process.
Year 10 Army Outreach

All Y10s took part in the Army Elite Skills Workshops, and what a motivating and inspiring experience it was. The morning kicked off with an engaging presentation in the lecture theatre, giving students real insight into the wide range of careers within the Army and the many different pathways available to them.
Students then headed outside for an hour of rotating challenges that tested teamwork, communication, resilience, and leadership. These military‑inspired activities required critical thinking, problem‑solving, and collaboration - and every single student got stuck in with enthusiasm and determination.
Y12 Business Lecture @ Aston University

We heard from lecturers Emma Neale and Adriana Braje about what studying a marketing degree involves, including how AI is being incorporated into content creation. Students also had the chance to play around with prompts, collectively creating a blue snake with a gold chain and a pink tutu in front of Big Ben - check out the output!
It was great to hear that our approach at Silverstone UTC, working with employers on live projects, is being mirrored at universities. This means our students will be leaving us already experienced in interpreting client briefs, delivering proposals to professionals, and with plenty of work experience under their belts.
UTC XRP Robot Challenge

A group of students attended a prestigious dual event at London’s Copper Box Arena, combining the UTC XRP Robot Challenge with the high-energy More Than Robots UK National Finals, where over 1,000 students from across the country competed at the very highest level of youth robotics.
The challenge focused on a real-world problem from the nuclear industry - the safe retrieval of waste at Sellafield. Working in a simulated high‑hazard environment, students programmed their XRP robots to navigate restricted zones and recover mock nuclear waste barrels. Alongside the technical challenge, teams also delivered a professional manufacturing pitch, presenting start‑up business models to supply robotics solutions to the nuclear sector in line with the UK’s Nuclear Sector Deal.
Throughout the day - both in competition and while watching the national finals on the main stage - our students were outstanding ambassadors for the UTC. They demonstrated pride through their professionalism, integrity in their teamwork and programming, determination as they refined and improved their solutions under pressure, and kindness in the way they supported peers and competitors alike. A true reflection of our UTC values in action.

MACH Show 2026
On Friday, a group of our Y12 students visited the MACH Show - the UK’s largest engineering and manufacturing trade exhibition, where they explored the cutting‑edge technologies shaping modern and future industry.
With over 500 exhibitors at the NEC in Birmingham, students gained first‑hand insight into areas such as CNC machining, automation and robotics, digital manufacturing, CAD/CAM, additive manufacturing, metrology and SMART industry solutions - bringing their STEM learning to life and opening their eyes to the vast range of engineering careers available in the sector.
Congratulations to Toby Ingram, who took part in a CNC coding challenge and won the fastest time with an incredible 33 seconds, beating the previous best of 37 seconds!
Experiences like this are invaluable in inspiring the next generation of engineers and showcasing the exciting opportunities within UK manufacturing and engineering.
