British Values
At Silverstone UTC, we recognise the importance of preparing our students for life beyond the formal examined curriculum. Nurturing their Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural development is a collective responsibility, embedded in everything we do. A key part of this preparation is the promotion and reinforcement of Fundamental British Values (FBVs).

These values play a vital role in fostering a strong sense of social and moral responsibility within our UTC community. They encourage students to challenge prejudice and stereotyping, helping them to become responsible, active citizens in modern, diverse Britain. By embedding these principles in our ethos, we create an inclusive environment where respect, tolerance, and fairness are at the heart of everyday life.

Fundamental British Values are actively promoted through our UTC values, shaping our vision and culture at Silverstone UTC. They are woven into the curriculum, explored in discussions, and reflected in the behaviour of both staff and students, ensuring that these principles are not just taught, but lived.

Individual Liberty
At Silverstone UTC, students are actively encouraged to make positive choices within a safe and supportive environment. We provide clear boundaries to help them make informed decisions responsibly. Students are taught to understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms with confidence, while also learning how to do so safely. This is reinforced through our PSHE curriculum and tutor sessions. Additionally, students have the opportunity to engage in enrichment activities that align with their interests, and we strongly encourage them to take advantage of these opportunities.

Democracy
At Silverstone UTC, we believe it is essential to model the principles and practice of democracy, giving students the opportunity to experience the democratic process first-hand. Students have the opportunity to share their views and shape their UTC experience. Students can even take part in mock elections, allowing them to vote on key issues, understand the significance of informed decision-making, and engage in political discussions. This helps students develop an awareness of how voting shapes society. Through these experiences, students gain valuable insight into democracy in action, fostering critical thinking, debate, and active citizenship.

The Rule of Law
At Silverstone UTC, the importance of codes of conduct and behaviour is consistently emphasised throughout the school day and during assemblies. Our staff serve as positive role models for students, demonstrating the values we uphold. The school environment is built on fair rules, with clear communication of rewards and sanctions for all members of the community. Through our PSHE curriculum and assemblies, students at Silverstone UTC are taught about the significance of laws in a democratic society and the legal protections for citizens of the UK. They also learn about the responsibilities these laws entail and the consequences of breaking them.

Mutual Respect
At Silverstone UTC, all staff members model the importance of mutual respect, fostering a culture of kindness and understanding. We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of bullying, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for everyone. Students engage in discussions and assemblies to explore the meaning of mutual respect and its role in positive social interactions. They are encouraged to reflect on how their actions impact both themselves and those around them, a principle reinforced through our behaviour policy. Our PSHE curriculum further supports this by equipping students with the knowledge and skills to act responsibly towards themselves and others as they prepare for adulthood.

Freedom of Faiths and Beliefs
At Silverstone UTC, we foster an understanding of each student’s place in a diverse and interconnected society. We provide opportunities to experience and appreciate different cultures through guest speakers, workshops, and our wider enrichment programme, encouraging curiosity and an outward-looking perspective. Our UTC welcomes students from all faiths and backgrounds, creating an inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated. Learning about different religions and beliefs in RS is complemented by subjects such as English, geography, media studies, citizenship and business, as well as being reflected in key assembly themes.
