We began the new half term with an exceptional opportunity for our students at the very heart of British motorsport. Year 11 and Year 12 students from Silverstone UTC attended the Meet the Motorsport event at The Wing, Silverstone, hosted by the Grand Prix Trust and led by its Chairman, Martin Brundle. The day provided a rare and inspiring insight into the breadth of careers available across the motorsport industry.

Students were welcomed into a powerful panel discussion featuring leading figures from across Formula One and motorsport media. Speakers included Louise Goodman, Bernie Collins, Ross Brawn OBE, Calum Nicholas, and Silverstone UTC alumni Cos Georgiou and Zara Ford. The panel shared their career journeys, industry experiences, and advice for young people aspiring to enter the sector. Their honesty, passion, and expertise offered invaluable perspective on the realities and opportunities within motorsport.

Following the panel session, students took part in a dynamic networking experience with a wide range of industry exhibitors. Organisations in attendance included McLaren Racing, Alpine Formula One Team, Red Bull Racing & Red Bull Technology, Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team, Aston Martin F1 Team, Cadillac Formula 1® Team, Williams Racing, Pirelli, the Heritage Skills Academy, F1 Academy and Silverstone Circuit, among many others. Students engaged directly with professionals, asked insightful questions, and explored pathways into engineering, technology, business, media, and support roles within the motorsport world.

Our students were outstanding ambassadors for Silverstone UTC throughout the day. They demonstrated confidence, curiosity, and professionalism while engaging with industry leaders and representing the school with pride. A particularly memorable message came from Ross Brawn, who reminded students that “Education is fuel in the tank for your future careers” — a sentiment that strongly reflects our mission at Silverstone UTC.

With over 200 of our students attending across morning and afternoon sessions, the event was packed with inspiration, aspiration, and opportunity. Experiences like this reinforce the value of our specialist curriculum and employer partnerships, bringing learning to life and connecting students directly with future industries.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Grand Prix Trust, Martin Brundle, all panel speakers, exhibitors, and event organisers for making this opportunity possible.

Our students left with a clearer understanding of the many career pathways within motorsport and beyond — and a renewed motivation to pursue them.
