Silverstone UTC Students Visit TGR Haas F1 Team for International Women in Engineering Day

Earlier this week, a group of Year 10 and Year 12 students had the incredible opportunity to visit the TGR Haas F1 Team factory in Banbury as part of our celebrations for International Women in Engineering Day.

The visit began with an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the factory, providing students with a rare insight into the fast-paced world of Formula 1. They explored the wide range of work involved in preparing a team for competition, from design and manufacturing to engineering development and race-day operations.

Following the tour, students took part in an engaging panel discussion with Electronics Design Engineer Alice Jennings and Mathematical Modeller Alyssa Gomes. Both speakers shared their personal career journeys, discussed their roles within Formula 1 and offered invaluable advice to students interested in pursuing careers in engineering, mathematics and motorsport.

Students also heard from Jenny Fletcher, Girls on Track UK Programme Manager at Motorsport UK, who spoke about the importance of increasing representation, creating opportunities and encouraging more young women to consider careerss within motorsport.

As we marked International Women in Engineering Day, the message to our students was clear: remain focused, pursue your passions and embrace every opportunity that comes your way. Career paths are not always straightforward, but every experience can help develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to achieve future ambitions.

Meaningful engagement with industry is at the heart of a UTC education, and this visit provided a powerful first-hand look at engineering in action. It also gave students the opportunity to meet and learn from inspiring women who are helping to shape the future of Formula 1 and the wider motorsport industry.
