WELCOME TO
- SILVERSTONE UTC

Silverstone University Technical College (UTC) was one of the first UTCs to open nationwide, as part of a government-funded programme to give those aged 14-19 unparalleled pathways into university and rewarding industry careers. Students can now leave the traditional schooling environment to study GCSEs or A-Levels alongside industry-recognised qualifications focused on meeting the requirements of employers and universities.

Silverstone UTC is a purpose built centre of excellence for young people wanting to break into the specialist fields of High Performance Engineering and Business with Events Management. It is based in the very heart of British Motorsport, at the Silverstone racing grounds, in a stunning multi-million-pound facility.

Louie Capazolli, 20, is currently employed at Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1.  During his time at SUTC Louie had great success when he represented Mad Croc Promotions UK, with  several podiums including one at Shenington. In 2021 Louie became the Quaife Mini Challenge UK Vice Champion and won the Rookie Championship in his first season.  Louie also qualified as a Motorsport Instructor in February 2022 and joined Areeve Motorsport in March 2022.

Becoming a statistician for a big business or the Government is a role that Georgia Mold is already on the way to fulfilling after becoming another student to graduate from Silverstone UTC with top-class qualifications.

Georgia achieved straight As in Maths, Further Maths and Physics as well as an AS in Chemistry.

Georgia says: “I was looking at engineering but didn’t want to narrow it down too much – the UTC exposed me to engineering without getting too tied into it while I followed a traditional A Level course of study. It was a very flexible way of doing things and some of the teachers have really shaped what I am doing now. They were very supportive of the direction I wanted to take."

Georgia graduated from the UTC in summer 2016 and has completed a BSc in Maths at Nottingham Trent University.

With a clear ambition of becoming a Formula 1 race engineer, Silverstone UTC graduate Disha Naik is also very much an inspiration for young women pondering which career path to take.

Disha studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Warwick graduating with a First Class after passing her A-Levels with an A* in Maths, an A in Further Maths and a B in Physics as well as an A in AS Chemistry and another A in her chosen EPQ (Extended Project Qualification – for her, vibrations in engines).

“I started watching motorsport from an early age. I was always fascinated by what the cars could do and wanted to understand the technology that enabled them to do that,” enthuses Disha.

The UTC, with engineering amongst its specialist subjects, was a natural fit and Disha is full of praise for how the establishment helped her personal development.

She adds: “The speakers the UTC brings in from its partners are really useful – they give you a great insight into what industry wants. The variety of companies gives you a flavour for all sorts of roles in engineering, and you see something extra you can be doing to be ready for when you graduate."

Disha is currently a Junior Suspension Engineer for Alpine.

Milo completed his Motorcycle Engineering and Master of Science Automotive Engineering Technology  at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David in Swansea and is currently a design engineer at Royal Enfield.

Ariane Batchelor  achieved a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Enginering at UTC and  joined the Northampton-based, high-tech manufacturing company, Igus.  Igus' Managing Director Matthew Aldridge said the level of interest from applicants had exceeded all expectations. “We introduced apprenticeships with the intention of providing workplace training opportunities for young people and hoped that the company could also benefit from their energy and enthusiasm,” he said. “My initial concern was that we might be limited by the number of applicants but the talent pool is very wide."

Following her time at Igus, Ariane went on to study as an electrical apprenticeship at Cranfield University (graduating in 2022) and is currently working for Vocalink as an electrician.
